Dr. Zoi S. Metaxa is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry at Democritus University of Thrace, Greece. She received her BS, MS and PhD in civil engineering from Democritus University of Thrace (DUTh), in 2005, 2007 and 2012, respectively. She has been a visiting pre-doctoral fellow at the Center for Advanced Cement-Based Materials (ACBM) at Northwestern University, directed by Professor S.P. Shah.

She is interested on investigating the correlation between the nanostructure and the mechanical performance of different composites and nanocomposites. Her expertise lies on the development of high performance advanced self-sensing cementitious nanocomposites.

She has participated in 15 research projects (principal investigator of 3 research projects) and teaching at the MSc programs MPhil in Nanotechnology and Oil and Gas Technology.

She is a co-inventor of three patents focusing on the development of carbon nanotube/cement nanocomposites (US9365456 B2, US8865107 B2 and OBI No 20170100137)

She has published 62 articles in international journals and conference proceedings with more than 2400 citations based on Scopus database (h-index 13).
